why did many immigrants come to america in the early 1800s

For alot of people it was search for better job opportunities and a chance to raise their standards of living. America was coined as a land of opportunity. For the Irish experiencing the Potato Famine it was a means of survival.

For many of the same reasons they come here today. Freedom to persue economic gains, freedom of religion (my ancestors) just to name a few. Some came because they were outlaws on the run from their country so they would disappear in the USA.

Europeans came to flee their crappy home countries. A lot of Irish came mid century to flee the genocide that was taking place under English occupation. It was either leave or day a horrible agonizing death under the boots of the English. Many more immigrants came from Africa as slaves on English slaving ships. Wealthy Europeans came to exploit the new country.

They came seeking for a land of their own, escaping from the religious imposition and the king. Things were getting ugly in Europe with wars and revolutions everywhere.
