I first saw this computer as reconditioned on the pc world website for £499 where it has seemed to have disappeared. I then looked on eBay but all have defects such as dents and scratches. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Let me clarify my question: they are no longer in pc world; I have rang them earlier today. Also searching them in Google and yahoo only came up with eBay (so far)

They are usually in store as managers specials, I bought a dual core 3.4GHz machine with 500Gb hard drive, 1Gb ram, dual layer dvd writer, tv card, Nvidia 7300 graphics (yes i know thats naff) windows media centre etc. for £300 and it was like brand new.

Why would you want to buy an advent. They are made by packard bell for the currys and pc world group. I have owned 2 packard bells and both are not very good machines to be honest. I have just thrown away my latest packard bell after the psu and motherboard went after only 3 years with little use. The machine was £600.

Why buy a re-conditioned machine, doesn't that show it was unreliable in the first place. Please please don't spend all that money on an ebay item unless you can view i first, try it and then collect it when you won the auction. Have you ever thought what happens to all those machines that are on constantly 10 hours a day, 6 and a half days a week. They probably sold as re-conditioned or on ebay. Funny how in pc world and currys you don't see ex demo models for sale. In fact I only ever seen Comet selling machines as ex demo.

If you buy an ex demo pc or laptop it probably had 2 years equivalent use in 3 months.

My advice to you would be put your money towards another brand maybe HP. Their support is very good. I don't have a HP computer but know their support is very good through work.

We now have 2 Acer laptops in our family and looking at buying a third Acer or maybe HP. We are very very happy with our Acer laptops but don't know what their desktops are like.

Have a look at ebuyer.co.uk They offer an excellent next day service.

At this point I would suggest any computer that is Pro capable. I have a HP Pavilion Pro. It seems to be great, as I have had no problems and I have a desk top version and a laptop version. I have had both for about 2yrs. The tech help is great and I am pleased with the performance I have gotten w/the wireless in my home and office. I have also seen others get good results w/the Acer brand computers. They are less expensive than HP. Always remember that they will offer you/try to get you to purchase way more than you need. Consult Consumer Reports once you have narrowed down your choices to 1 or 2. Happy surfing!
