I used to play MMO's, and some good ones are Endless Online or Maple Story (which is kind of anime-style).
EO is 2D, and is 100% free. It's pretty simple, and stays entertaining for a long time.
Maple Story is also 2D, but with chibi-anime-like graphics. It has a pretty big pay section, although signing up and playing is free.
