it used to be so annoying when people told me that i "act white"..i think its so ignorant and stereotypical to claim that someone acts a race. its almost insulting because the people saying these things are degrading minorities by expecting them to be ignorant, speak slang and ebonics, wear bagging clothes, have no money, etc..the weirdest situation is when a "ghetto" white person accuses me of "not being myself" because im acting white... ive learned to laugh it off but i still explain why i dont like people saying that. im not going to adapt to some moronic ideal of what i should be. in my opinion, if more minorities broke away from the mold that has been put in place by the media and ideals of "white supremacy culture" (which frankly is getting older everyday), then more of us could excel in various aspects of life (i.e. lower rates of illiteracy, actually taking davantage of education, not having a billion children on welfare, etc.) what do you think?

It is ignorant but that is how society defines its social settings. The more intelligent you speak and the conservative attire you wear the more you appear white and the more ghetto slang you speak and baggie jeans attire you are considered ghetto.
And yet people get upset and call it racisim, bigotry, ignorance..I don't see anyone trying to change the way black and white race is defined?
BET still displays the ghetto persona theyshould.... start showing more intelect videos (when hell freezes over)
When the ghetto stops using ebonics and starts using "Proper English". When the statitics on teenagers graduating from high school and actually enrolling in college picks up in lower income areas.
Till changes come society will stay ignorant and these statements you "act white" or you "act black will continue.

I think that's ignorant. Act as you like and don't mind the labels. We're all human: black, white, bronze...
As you've mentioned, people of different races do same things but those things are ascribed to another race. That's what we call stereotypes. Being black or white or whatever won't make you prosper by itself. Literacy and prosperity are results of human effort. If there are more Africans illiterate than Europeans it doesn't mean that blacks aren't able to study. It just shows that availability of education is better in Europe due to higher economic standard, which has nothing to do with your skin colour. Unequal ratio between blacks and whites in the US is a result of the basis one group (in majority) came into USA. Most of whites came with money and most of blacks didn't own even themselves. Tolerance is better than hatred and pick your friends based on your common interests, not on your skin colour. When you're wounded you bleed, when I'm wounded I bleed and so does everybody else and we all have red blood, no matter what's our skin colour. Live the stupid labels aside and believe in one human race.

There is nothing wrong about being yourself.
There is nothing wrong with baggy clothes or slang neither trailer parks and mullets.
People who disagree just don't care enough to understand the people who live this way.
Some people who are accused of "acting black" are indeed acting and are ashamed of where they came from and are trying to distance themselves from their kind.
There are others who are just being themselves and don't deserve to be accused.

I had a roomate who told me her father didn't like Bill Cosby b/c the man "acted white". I didn't get it and thought the man was just plain crazy(He also didn't put his own voice on the answering machine b/c he thought govermont officials would spy on him) untill last year when I discovered he was being prejudence.
So I guess it is annoying and stupid to say such a thing.

i agree. people saying that you act white, black etc, just shows how ignorant they are. Race determines physical characteristics. Culture is a little bit different but it has nothing to do with skin color. So personally using phrases such as u act white is pretty stupid to me.

It speaks volumes about the person saying that to you. And obviously, some racists thing going on there too. Wouldn't you agree. If someone said that to me, I'd just flip it on them. " You should know. You're the expert." Or, "Thank you." Or, I'm trying... Glad to know I'm succeeding." tee-hee. don't let the ba=stards get you down.

Just act like yourself. If they think you act white ignore them.
I also get annoyed by ghetto whites who arent being themselves.
Im white but I live in a ghetto neighborhood and I see all kinds. I can just be myself and fit in easily.

You know what i think is rediculous....when white girls try to talk like they are black. Not only does it sound stupid, but they are trying to be something they are not. They smack their lips, and talk real loud.....basically acting like animals. How is that appealing?????
White girls who date anyone other than white men are scum and should be sterilized so they cant have 5 black kids by the time they are 22 by 5 different men and live off welfare.

it bothers me too not so much you act this or that but my bf is always saying stuff like "she is too white" or those white guys are dressing black but calling black people *****s.
That stuff bothers me cause how can you dress black or white or any race, who said that baggy pants was only for black folks, and buck teeth was only for hillbillies.
