I walk children everywhere rather than take the car to be healthy but we often get lungfuls of cigarette smoke. do you think it should be banned unless in private property??

There is no need to be rude everyone, I don't like the use of hitler all the time. I think i have every right to moan. Car emissions are bad but i'm doing my bit to help that and also most people have no choice but everyone has a choice about smoking. Everyone. I was just stating my worries, I cannot believe there are so many nasty people out there

No. How often do you actually confront these puffs of smoke. Probably not nearly as much as the fumes from the cars going up and down the street. Those are more harmful than the occasional exposure to the smoke. Should we ban cars next?

Hiya, okay sorry but you've got another no! And I don't think many of the people answering mean to be nasty, it's just you gotta understand we ARE really being bullied into submission! Or at least people are trying to do so! There are soooooo many pollutants outside but the smokers always end up being the targets for the 'should we ban this' type of question, and only because we are seen to be the easy targets! I know plenty of people have already said about cars, but it is a valid point. I don't drive, and I don't see the need to. I walk to work come snow, rain or shine! So surely I would have as much right to argue the case on cars being bad for my health as you do cigarettes! This world is going nuts with rules and regulations, but lets face it it's just getting worse day by day! And just as a final note I resent the people who are making out like ALL smokers are inconsiderate! I do try and keep away from non smokers when I'm smoking, but of course there are going to be times when that doesn't quite happen! But maybe here's an idea, and I'm not being funny I swear, but why not just give us a wide berth if we haven't already seen you and done so ourselves. I'm sure that there aren't any people here that smoke who want to give yours or anybodies kids lung cancer. So maybe the best solution is to just consider everybody!

This is just ridiculous! It is outside so how can you get a lung full of second hand smoke? Are you deliberately getting in people's personal space trying to inhale their smoke? What I find offensive is people with excessive amounts of perfume on that make me start sneezing profusely when I am 15 feet away from them or people that let their children scream and run around like wild animals and giving me a head ache. There is such a thing as noise pollution also. So that being said, should we ban people wearing perfume or ban children from being out in public? That sounds ridiculous doesn't it? That is the point that I am trying to make. You really should back off on smokers because in my country it is us smokers who are helping to pay for children's education.

The fact is that passive smoking can kill.

Why should I be forced to breathe in other people's cigarette smoke? Often I find myself having to hold my breath to avoid coughing when I'm walking down the street behind a smoker - because if there is even the slightest breeze you can guarantee it ends up blowing right into my mouth and eyes. I hate to think how much more awful it must be for those people who suffer with asthma.

Another thing that really irritates me is the horrible mess smokers make - especially cigarette butts around bus stops - most of the time there is a bin there - so why aren't they using it? I've seen it time and time again... the smoker will see the bus coming and continue to smoke right up until the very moment the bus has arrived - then they'll just throw it on the ground. Are they really that stupid they don't see the bin? I never miss seeing it so how do they? It's completely lazy and disgusting.

The worst thing is - if you dare to say anything to them about it they'll just give you the dirtiest look ever - or threaten you in some way. And that's just the polite ones.

Smokers always go on about their rights - but what about the rights of the majority of people whose health they are infringing upon? Nobody should be able to impose their dirty stinky habit onto other people. It's not fair, people should be protected from it.

And for those of you who constantly throw up the "cars are just as bad" argument - well guess what? YOU'RE WRONG! "People who smoke cigarettes are pumping out 10 times more toxic air than cars, say experts." Smokers, eh? D'oh!
It also kills brain cells by the way. lol :-)

Ok you walk, with children and the only thing you can think is going into your lungs is cigarette smoke? Get over yourself!

One has to ask are you that out of shape or are you screaming that much? The answer is no, never.

Take away one right and eventually the rest will follow. Look at the patriot act... no need to say more.

Lets take away the alcohol, beer, xanax, oxycodone, and other drugs as these are harmful and are abused in one way or another. However, I do not see you proposing taking these items away or making them illegal... are you? No I thought not.
I know what bandwagon would you like to jump on next? Maybe make all fat people stay indoors until all in shape people can't see them????

You get lungfuls of cigarette smoke! How bleeding tall are you or the kids!

Last time I looked, the smoke from my cigarette was going straight up! It's got to obey the laws of physics! You'd have to stand in the middle of a very large group of people smaller than you to breathe in a lungful! At least get the science right! Or don't they teach it in school anymore? How much passive smoking especially outside do you think it takes to harm YOUR health! If you don't like the smell (which is all you are getting) then I'm sorry but I might not like yours too much either!
Sorry about the Emissions from my car though, the bleeding exhaust is too low! I don't always have the choice to walk and we've got a crap bus service!

I'm in favour of the ban inside public buildings but attitudes like this are ridiculous and slightly paranoid.

Has there ever been an issue that someone had a health issue because of second hand smoke outside? In a house, is another issue. What happens if you set that ban in motion? Then if someone smokes in their yard and a neighbor complains, then they won't be able to smoke on their own private property! I doubt they get a lungful of cigarette smoke, the smell isn't so nice, but neither is a skunk. Should we ban them from the outside, as well?

I say no. I am a smoker who has the common courtesy to stay away from children or crowded places when I do have a smoke. There are some out there that simply don't care and smoke where they wish. If you see a cloud of smoke, simply just avoid it if you are concerned about your health.

The passive smoking argument is massively exaggerated, and I am talking about indoors, in pubs. If you are SERIOUSLY worried about smoking in the street, then you are a hypochondriac, and extremely naive and gullible.

How do you manage to get lung-fulls of smoke in the outdoors, and isn't car exhaust fumes far worse. You accuse people of being nasty, but you are being intolerant in the extreme. Of course people are going to attack you. Your attitude is beyond belief.

No, you have to be winding us up.

It is already there in many Countries. The sad part is that at many places it is not implemented properly.

No Law or Ban is worth the Paper it is written if the same is not adhered/implemented.

In this respect I like Singapore. This Country has got a nick name - "Fine Country". Don't miss the Pun.
