Most useless and consumptive group of people ever. Even when I was smoking pot everyday and dropping acid every other weekend, I disliked these people. Your protests change nothing!!!

The same thing I thought of them as a child in the 60s: a bunch of selfish spoiled brats. Sadly 40 years later I see nothing to make me change my assessment.

Tisk tisk. You're view of hippies definitely came from TV and movies- nice and unbais, right? Hippies, at least around here (and I'm at the University of Maine, so there are ALOT of hippies) tend to be the friendliest group of people on campus. As many of them hold jobs as a group of regular people. They help the environment, clean up campus, and help people out all the time, and tend to only take what they need from the world. I'd never be afraid to give a hippie a ride or stop and ask them for directions. (whens the last time you met a violent hippie?) They don't hurt anyone, and what business is it of yours what they do in their spare time? How are they worse then buisness people who do coke on the weekends, or people who like to get drunk with their friends? Do you hate everyone? Its ridiculous to judge a group of people when you obviously don't know anything about them.

Please, define "hippie" for me. I'm an ex-hippie....I was only a hippie when hippies were around in the 60's and 70's. What do you call hippies nowdays? I have a very responsible job where I can still do helpful, peaceful things but I no longer use drugs... or alcohol for that matter.My politics are more moderate than leftist but I do believe in peaceful assembly to protest immoral wars. So am I still a hippie in the world's eyes? You tell ME.

Grow up dude. How can you fix your mouth to call someone useless and consumptive. Were you alive in the 60's? Did you protest for any cause you believed in? Do you agree 100% with how society affects your life? Did you agree with the Vietnam War and Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Get a life. Protest did change the world. From the marches on Washington to the drug store sit ins.... They all made a difference.

I would not call myself a hippy ever. I am very far from what i would consider one. But I also think that U are stereotyping. Just because one calls themself a "hippy" Doesn't mean they do drugs , or they "live off the land". I mean Ive met "goths" as people would call them that have 9-5 jobs and are decent people that at night don't bite peoples necks.

Not everyone who protests is a hippie. Many kinds of people protest many different things. As a general rule, hippies don't bother me, so I don't bother them.

Helen is an emeritus professor of philosophy. George recently retired as chief of a big city fire department and his twin brother David as a commercial pilot. Michael made his fortune in real estate and married June, one of the most sexually liberated hippie girls we ever knew, who went on to become a high school principal and raised three outstanding young sons. Stupid. They are high 24-7. I like hippie jokes though. BTW why did you smoke pot. It screws up your life. Pot kills. Smokey the Bear says: "Only you can prevent potheaded hippies."
