Parliment took over, no more Royal Family in power for awhile there. However, the British people later decided that they wanted the monarchy system back and Charles' son, who was exiled after the loss of the Civil War, became king and the Stuart Royal Family went on until the death of Queen Anne in the 18th century, when the German George from Hanover became King, starting the Georgian era. Etcetera, etcetera, British history ends up with flowing explanations that never stop.

Overall, the lesson of the failure of a Parliment-only political system in England then, along with other little speckles of time in the history of the country, proves that the British Royal Family serves as a morale symbol to the citizens of the country and that despite popularity issues with Queen Elizabeth II, there is no doubt that Great Britain will have the monarchy in the years to come.

Charles 1 believed in 'Divine Right', so he lost his head. His last words were "Igo from a corruptible to an incorruptible crown, where no disturbances can be."

Oliver Cromwell becomes 'Lord Protector' from 1653-1658.

Richard Cromwell becomes 'Lord Protector' upon the death of his father, but does not last long. Sept. 1658- May 1659.

Charles II gets the throne back. 1660-1685, has no legitimate children.

Charles I was beheaded, his son Charles II was sent into hiding - in the Netherlands?? I think.
Oliver Cromwell and parliament ruled for a while, and later Charles II came back to reclaim the throne.

Charles was executed. Little Charles was exiled. Cromwell continued the protestant English genocide of Ireland. The genocide and repression continues to this day. Shame on the English and their ancestors.
