My fiancee has a stomach flu and my baby seems to have caught it. He holds food down for maybe an hour and vomits it up and has diarrea but no fever. I called his ped. several times today, the MA called me back asked more ?s then said dr will call me back....not heard from him yet.
I gave him a bath he seems a bit more comfy but i still am worried bout him. Any suggestions???

Keep encouraging tons of liquids, even if it seems he's throwing it all up, he is still getting some nutrition and you don't want him to get dehydrated.
Otherwise, your doctor will let you know what you should do when he calls you back..

Did this just start today? The bug usually last about 24 hours. Give him Pedialyte. If he doesn't seem to want it or any other liquids for that matter, you can take a medicine syringe and fill it up with Pedialyte, stick it into the side of his mouth, and slowly squirt it into his mouth. This will help keep him from dehydrating. You can do this about every 30 minutes or so. You be the judge 'cuz moms know best! Stay away from sugary drinks because this can make the vomiting/diarrhea even worse. Also watch out for a diaper rash. It can be pesky to get rid of. Just keep your baby clean and apply petroleum jelly or a diaper rash ointment/cream. It'll help soothe his little bottom. (My fav is A & D ointment.) As always, if you have any concerns about your child or if your child just doesn't seem "right," you should contact your pediatrician for further evaluation/advice. Pediatricians usually have doctors that are on call all hours of the day and night. Good luck!

I really don't think you need to fill him to the brim with fluids like others have suggested. He's got a tummy bug - give his tummy a break. I did this with my little one when he got the stomach flu around 3 months of age. Give him an ounce of breast milk or formula, whichever you're using. If he keeps it down for an hour, try another ounce. Wait again, and repeat. Small amounts are the key - he's sure to vomit if he chugs a full bottle. Babies don't usually dehydrate on vomiting alone, or even mild diarrhea, but even so, he is very young so keep a close eye on him. Let him nap, as sleep rests the tummy. If his diarrhea is severe, then dehydration is certainly a concern. Pay close attention to his wet diapers - hard to tell I know when he has diarrhea, but try. I can't remember what the magic number is as far as wet diapers per day, but look it up on the internet. If he cries, make sure he has tears. Make sure his mouth is moist. Lightly pinch his skin and make sure it doesn't stay pinched up like a tent. Dry mouth, no tears, or skin tenting are all signs of dehydration. Most of all, pay attention to his mood. If he acts very restless, agitated, weak, etc. - that could be a sign of something more urgent. Consider looking for another pediatrician. It shouldn't take long so long for the doctor to get back to you. Best wishes. Remember, mommies know best!

I am not a doctor, but, it seems like a positive thing that he is getting rid of the virus through vomiting. My doctor suggested watering down the formula or breast-milk when my daughter had the flu, so that she could get fluids, and some light nourishment. Again, I am not a doctor, this is just what worked for me.
Hope you hear back from your Dr. soon. Best of luck.

My baby had a bout of sickness for a little while about a month ago. She wasnt vomiting but had severe diarrhea. I called the doctor and she said it was probably just the common cold. She told me to keep her hydrated as much as possible (lots of clear liquids and maybe some Pedialyte) and to monitor her temp. She also said it would probly go away in a couple days but if it didnt to call back and theyd get her an appt as soon as possible. She came out fine after a couple days.
I recommend to keep your baby hydrated and to check his temp a lot until you can talk to the pediatrician.

Unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do at this point other than keep his belly warm and maybe some light pressure to his belly such as laying over your lap. Try and keep him drinking some water at least. If he doesnt like it plain then try adding a pinch of sugar. Also maybe go and get some pedialite. Babies seem to love it. They make pedialite pops also that babies like too. Good Luck!!!! The worrying never ends I promise!!!!

Keep an eye on him , if he continues to vomit more than 24 hours or develops a high fever take him to the hospital. Infants dehydrate so easily. If he begins to vomit more frequently you may want to consider taking him in sooner than that. Quit calling them and just take him in.

At such a young age you really need to be careful. If your instinct are telling you he really is not doing well, take him to the ER. Babies can get dehydrated fast. How long ago did you call the doc? Did you make an appointment?

Well, it takes a while for doctors to get back. But you have done the right thing by calling him or her. Whenever you have a med question, always call the doc. Right now, keep jr. comfy and warm, and try to get your baby to get some fluids.

Make sure you moniter his tempature. Make sure he still nurses/bottle feed because you do not want him to get dehydrated. Water is okay to give an infant too. It will help cool him down as well. There is infant tylenol drops you can give your baby at that age as well. This will help with his pain. How hard it is to see babies in pain. Good luck!
