Stick with walking because it is both safe and effective for an expectant mom. I would "not" suggest lifting weights, no matter who advises you to do so.
Continue to take good care of yourself and I pray that you will have a delightfully beautiful and healthy baby.

I'm in the Army and I'm 38 weeks pregnant. Everyone in the military has to do PT in the mornings even if your pregnant. I do aerobics, walk and lift weights still. The most we can lift is 5 lbs. and Ive never had a problem with it. I think unless your having a complicated pregnancy or your high risk, then It really shouldn't be a problem for you. If you were never really an active person before you became pregnant, I would take it slow though. Its definitely not a good thing to start out fast and using heavy weights. You can always start out with 3 lbs. Exercise is very good for you when your pregnant. Just don't over exert yourself. Do what your body can take, if you do start hurting, stop! And if your having problems call the doc. Other than that I don't think the doctor would tell you to do something if it would put the baby at risk! Good luck and I wish you the best!!

There are lots of things you can do for lifting weights with your arms without raising them above your head. Lifting your hands above your head with weights is never a good idea if you are a little clumsy, or prone to drop things, but if you are not, well then I would just use caution. You can get little wrist weights that slip over the hand to use while you go for your walk and just swinging your hand back and forth still works your arms.
Exercising always helps when you are pregnant, it keeps the blood flowing and helps with the delivery.
Your doctor would not tell you to do something that would hurt you or your baby. Just remember your body was made to carry a baby and will tell you if you are going to far.

I worked out the entire time during my pregnancy except for these last few weeks. I dont think you doc would tell you to do anything that would cause harm to you or the baby. But go with you instinct. You know how much and and how little you can do. Just remember if you get tired to stop

Wow, why such a little amount of weight? Normally it is about 20-30 lbs roughly. But you will have less to loose!!
I use 8lb weights for my arms and have not had a problem. I am sure 5lbs are fine. Good luck to you!!

Since 3-5lbs. isn't much weight, it should be fine to lift over your head, especially if your Dr. said it was ok. If you're still concerned or it feels funny, do arm curls or other exercises that don't require you to lift them over your head.
