My 3 week old baby breathes very loudly - it sounds like he's snoring even though he's awake. It is particularly noticeable when he's drinking from a bottle. Any idea what causes this?

I think maybe your baby needs to burp. My daughter makes those sounds when she's eating if she needs to burp. Try taking the bottle away and burping him, and see if that helps.

A baby's lungs are very close to their throat and so when they have a cold, their breathing can sound a lot more laborious than it actually is and this often causes more alarm than necessary with first time parents. Baby's can also snore, just because of the way they relax their mouth and throat when sleeping. You may want to have your baby checked by your pediatrician for deviation of the septum, or any other possible factors that may be causing breathing problems. Don't risk it. Think about videoing with a sound track that you could show the doctor during your visit, right on your camera, without expecting him to supply something to view it with.

My cuz just had a baby and her baby does that too, the doctor said that some babies breath like that because there breathing in and out from their nose only. If you think there is something to worry about you should take your baby to the doctor.

be sure to use the suction thingy that the hosp. gave you--and put some saline drops in & suction his nose out a few times a day. your baby still has 'stuff' in there from birth.
my baby did that too, I used the hospital thingy because it worked SOO much better than any that you buy in the store.

oh wanted to add--make sure your house isnt dry. get a humidifier-that will help a lot.
if you cant afford one or something--just put containers of water on your radiators filled with water--that has the same effect.

sounds like he is congested. Does he have a lot of bugers? Is he jaundice at all or Colicky? I would take him to the doctors just to be safe.. is soo scary when they are young and cant tell you what is wrong with them.

Probably has a sinus/ear infection. Please get him to a pediatrician or clinic, especially if he's running a fever.....Good luck
