My husband has always been thin but lately he has put on weight.. all of which is located around his middle. His belly now looks like a pregnant woman at 8months and is hard as a rock.. what would cause this? He say's it feels like someone needs to stick a needle in it and deflate him.

If your description is accurate, that he looks like a pregnant woman and the abdomen is hard, not squishy, he should get it checked by a doctor asap. This could be a real medical problem, and going in to see a doctor could save his life. Or it could be nothing, but it should be checked, and fast.

We men play lots of sport and exercise regulalry as teenagers when our testosterone levels are high and our metabolism is high and we eat everything by the bucketful.

Unfortunately the older we get the slower our metabolism... and our muscles start shrinking and our height shortens gradually.

Those meals we eat don't get corrospondingly smaller and we think to ourselves "I am eating exactly the same thing as I was 20 years ago so how come I am now putting on weight"?

He, like me, needs to exercise one hour a day to build up those muscles so that they do not shrink any further. That fat stored around his middle will go...The bloating feeling will go away too..... but before he starts this new regime, he needs to go and see his doctor to get clearance - blood sugar, blood pressure, chloresterol etc the tyre around his middle..man boobs..... all the symptoms of aging.

poor eating habits and lack of an adequate exercise regime. Have him lay off the soda's and carbohydrates and take up running. Men's metabolism changes with age, often in mid-20's - mid 30's all that I've always been thin business goes right out the window....welcome to your 2nd adulthood!

Poor eating habits and lack of exercises are usually to blame. Plus as you get older, your metabolism slows down so your body doesn't burn calories as easily as it did when you were a teenager.

I know what your husband is going through. It hit me in my late 20s. The fact that I have a desk job compounded the problem.

What worked for me besides jogging & spinning was excercises that targeted the abdominals. Tell him to try crunches and sit ups.
