For $1000 ~ $2000 range, I'd buy a Gibson or a Taylor. Their jumbos are great, imo. For ~$1000 range, you have many to choose from. Takamine, Yamaha, Larrivee, Epiphone, Ovation, Washburn, etc... Most of those are built in the same plant in Korea, built by the same people. So, as far as sound and quality goes, they're about the same. You kinda pick what you think sound the best, and looks the best.

I personally have a Takamine, and it's been great for me. Sounds good, built well, easy to play.

The sound of an acoustic depends on the wood used, the bracing inside and other variables. For my money nothing and I mean NOTHING beats a Martin. It is the Cadillac of guitars. Pricey yes, but if you want the best, money doesn't matter. Now as far ans the electric acoustic, that depends on the electronics installed. Different sounds from different manufacturers. Go play a bunch of different guitars. Find the sound you like in your price range. That's always the best idea. Sound is very subjective. Find the one you like.

The term "Best" is hard to define when it comes to guitars. Some people would say the best guitar is one that plays and sounds nice, at the lowest cost. Others don't look at price, and try to get the one that sounds the best. And someone else might say that only one brand name is acceptable.

This is something you'll have to decide on your own. It's like asking what's the best car. Someone might say, "Well a Hummer is the best car, it's the king of the road." To which I would reply, "The Hummer is an overpriced, gas guzzling, ego maniac machine. I like my Cavailer the best because it's affordable, gets good gas mileage, it's cheap to insure and it has a CD player."

Do you get my point?
If you are new to guitars, I would try to get an acoustic in the 200-300 dollar range. You don't want to get a 1,000 dollar guitar for learning to play. Go to your local music store and play every guitar in the place. Pick out one that you like that you can afford and start there.

After you've played for years, you will have played on other people's guitars. And hopefully, you will have explored to nearby cities and checked out the guitars in their stores. By then, you should have an idea of what kind of guitar is right for you.

It depends upon what type of tone you like. I like a brighter tone and for that, nothing beats a Taylor. My hubby bought me one for Christmas and it is amazing. They come in all sorts of body styles to fit anyone. They are mid-range in price -- and can get pricey. But, they are worth the money. I tried several brands when I was looking around and Taylor was far superior to the others.
