Were you able to find out the gender of the baby at that time? I have found that the gender can be detected as early as 16 wks but I found a place that does 3d/4d ultrasounds and they dont recommend detecting the sex until 26 wks. Someone told me if you wait til 26 wks then you are too far along and it is hard to tell. What is the truth?

They told me the best time to do it was after 24 weeks. I did mine right at 24 weeks and they could tell forsure the sex. It was very obvious. I hope this helps!

I have had two 3d/4d ultrasounds done: One at 28 weeks, another at 34 weeks. It's not that they don't recommend detecting the sex until 26 weeks-- it's that they don't recommend doing a 3d/4d ultrasound until then, because that is when the baby is the best size to get good pictures of him. The doctor should do an ultrasound between 18-22 weeks and be able to tell you the sex then. I had one done at 18 weeks and the sex was determinable... If you want to go to the 3d/4d place to find out the sex, they should let you, they'll just have you know that you probably won't get great pictures of your baby.

They told me that the best time to have the 3d/4d ultrasound is between 28-32 weeks. Anything sooner you really cant see features and anything after the baby is getting to be too cramped to see anything. But i found out the sex of the baby at 20 weeks. The 3d/4d ultrasound is very exciting! It was great seeing more than just bones!lol...

well I had a 3d 4d ultrasound at 20 weeks, the longer you wait the more detail you can see on your baby's face.
and at around 26 weeks is a good time to see the sex.
for sure.
I couldn't find out the sex because its foot was in the way and then it changed postions and I couldnt find out at all.
so they let me come back at 26 weeks and they told me for sure and right away what the sex was, and I noticed my baby's face was more clear and developed
they are so much fun I think I cried the whole time!

definatley 26 weeks is a perfect time to find out, and you still have enough time to do the baby's room etc.

Most practitioners follow the practice of waiting until you are about four months along. This was not true 20 years ago, but now they are concerned that ultra sound could possibly have an effect on the very early fetus stages. During the ultra sound, at around 4 months, the baby is moving around, and turning still, with plenty of room. With that movement and turning, often they will wait until they can get a "crotch shot" to determine the sex of the baby. Sooner than four months it is a bit of a guessing game, because the genitals have not transformed enough to be absolutely sure.

well you can detect the sex of the baby at 16wks. but the reason why they say to wait until 26wks. with the 3d/4d ultrasound is because that is when your baby looks the best in picture you can actually tell what your baby will look like.... I have a picture of my niece in 3d/4d form at 28 wks. and a picture of her at birth and they look like the same baby only in sepia vs. color if you want I can email it to you just let me know...

that is true..it is hard to see the sex when you are that far along do to the fact that the baby is in a fetal position..i had a normal ultrasound done at 18 weeks and found out what i was having and then when i went for a 3d ultrasound when i was 29 weeks she couldnt find his privates b.c he had his legs up on his head..so it was hard to tell..but i already knew...good luck

I had one last week (at 15 weeks). We probably would have been able to tell the sex, but the little booger had its legs crossed the whole time.
A tip that the ultrasound tech told me: drink a mountain dew an hour before ultrasound to get the baby moving.

I was 13 weeks at my first ultrisound and they told me I was having a girl!! They tell you they are only 90% accurate so not to paint the nursery. My second one was at 18 weeks, and again they said girl. I'm due in two weeks so ... i'm HOPING it IS a girl, or the boy will be pretty in pink!! :-)
Oh, and like the person said... drink mt dew or oj before going in!! You don't want to catch the baby asleep!!
