Age 16 or when she becomes sexually active before age 16. This is when her body begins to slow down with any changes that may have been occurring in her your teen years as she matures. Pre-cancerous diseases and any abnormalities should be detected as early as possible to minimize the impact on her health in the future and to lessen her risks of miscarriages and other pregnancy issues.
Also, while it is embarrassing procedure it will help her become more in tune with her body and she will have a better understanding of what is going on within her body as well.
Another plus is even though you may think you have the best relations hip with your child she may be hiding something from you and if that is the case seeing the OB may give her someone else to confide in or ask questions to that she may be embarrasses or uncomfortable talking to you about.
Talk to her and she how she feels about it. After all it is her body. Good Luck!

If a young woman is otherwise healthy, she should have her first annual pelvic exam and Pap smear by the age of 18. If she is sexually active or having some problem, she should go in sooner.
If your daughter is healthy and isn't sexually active, she can probably wait until she's 18 without any problems.

My mom works for the county health department and she didn't make me go until right before i got married (became sexually active) And then she found me a provider that would prescirbe the first year of my birth control without a pelvic provided the fact that i was a virgin. If your going to make her do it you need to be really careful about who you let her see and find someone really gentle for her first time. It can be really tramatic if you have one as a virgin just because your nervous and the thought of it is scary. My provider wasn't going to make me have one at 19 since i was a virgin but she convinced me that I should have one before becoming sexually active with my husband just to make sure everything was normal in there and that it wasn't going to hurt me. Still she left the decision up to me which was the big thing and that helped a lot. There wasn't any pressure that I HAD to do it and she knew i was really scared and took her time and walked me through all that she was doing. She even used a pediatric spectulum on me. The main question is whether she is having sex or not. If she's not I wouldn't really worry or push the issue until college. Especially if she's senstive about things.

My ob/gyn told me that it was either age 18 or whenever I became sexually active.
However, I have been on the pill for three years due to PCOS and I went to get my usual checkup last fall and was surprised with a pelvic exam.
They told me it was necessary since I was on the pill, even though I wasn't active or 18 yet.
Generally though, I've always heard 18.

If she's sexually active then she needs to see the GYN for a pelvic exam and a pap smear. Your pediatrician is WRONG unless she is already having sex.
Until she is sexually active, she doesn't need to go.

I would have thought that was a bit early, but with cancer these days its always good to be sure.
Once girls become sexually active it should be every 12 months.
I went for the first time to the OBGYN when I was 6 weeks pregnant.
