In the first castle on world 8, I'm standing by the big red door and I can see where the platform is supposed to be - but it's not there! I've waited for over two minutes for it to appear and it hasn't. How do I make it appear?

One of the switches that trigger platforms throughout that level will make one appear there. Just make sure at the part with a switch and two tracks (one high, one low) that you switch it until you get the low one. Then, when you get to the end, the platform should be there. If it's not, DON"T WAIT, leave and try again.
When I say 'one high, one low' I mean the last pair before getting to the door. Make sure you go LOW on that last switch.
