Obviously there was the original but it was considered a spoof but the main lead was James Bond...

Someone with more knowledge clarify this for me. I knew this before but as I think about it now I am starting to hate this version considered it is a semi remake.

The premises are the same though since they are both based on villians who gamble that need to be taken down.

I hate remakes because they are lazy and uninventive. I find that most people who like them do not know how to appreciate originals and are more interested in flash, as opposed to content.

The trouble is that the first filmed version was not just a spoof, but an all out comedy. It had Peter Sellers, Woody Allen and almost all the "hot" actors of it's time and several dozen people playing the James Bond role. It would be like comparing Scary Movie with Scream. The first Casino Royale was so out there that this could not be considered a remake.

No, it's not a remake in any way, shape or form of the first movie "Casino Royale." But even if it were, why should that make you hate it? Would you not therefore, hate the whole premise of James Bond as it's based on a series of books (of which "Casino Royale" is the first)?

It's not a remake....just a re-used title. It has nothing to do with the first one. In fact, the first one is not even considered an official James bond movie. I would consider this a prequel to the others though, since this is supposedly his first assignment as a double-O. I liked the movie, it was great, but for a prequel to all the other ones he was using new technology, kinda ruins the timeline..........

Have you even seen the new Casino Royale? I read the Fleming book first (1953) over the Holidays. I did not like the book, the new movie, or the old one. Personally i think the Bond production team is doing its very best to put the 007 series to sleep. They are wiping clean the memories of the original Bond concepts. I think they should sell the Bond franchise to someone who wants it.

I am not sure if calling this a remake or prequil would make much sense to me.

It is not that great of a Bond film.

I am not sure why they did this movie the way they did.
