She used to write comedy for TV and she doesn't want to be a teacher. She is currently working as a web designer for a company she hates. Good with photoshop and computer literate, but generally more comfortable with people, pencils and paper than computers.

Become a copywriter for an advertising agency! You can do it full time or part time as a freelance writer.

Check out this website: http://www.creativehotlist.com/
You can search for jobs on this site in your area for copywriters. With the right agency you can have the creative freedom to write all kinds of stuff!

Also check out: http://www.adforum.com/ap/
On this site you can browse advertising agencies in your area. Check out their portfolio. If you think that the work they do is creative then you will probably like to work there.

A lot of advertising agencies, especially the good ones, do not need to advertise for positions because they have people constantly sending them stuff. I receive phone calls, emails and portfolios every day! If I see one that really catches my eye then I set it aside and sometimes we will hire them for a job or full time work. So put together a portfolio (or collection of your work) in a creative way and someone will hire you.

There are special schools that you can attend to develop your portfolio like:

Freelance writing - women's magazines, movies reviews, online articles, you name it
Journalism - sounds like a smaller-town paper might be a better fit than the highly computer-centric Murdoch properties
Speechwriting - especially moving into an election year. It's not just for presidents any more....
