Both are bad, but I'd say coffee is the better of the two evils. Energy drinks contain massive amounts of caffiene. Check the serving size, too- most cans contain more then one serving, so you're getting much more caffiene then you think. Caffiene is a strong diretec, so it dehydrates you (which just makes you feel more tired later!) It also makes your heart beat faster then it normally would, which can cause heart problems. (A friend of mine ended up having a heart attack from two of the big cans of monster energy drink.) It constricts blood vessels, raising your blood pressure, restricting circulation, and preventing enough oxygen from getting to the brain. If you can't give up coffee, stick to dark roasts. They contain less caffiene then lighter roasts, even though the taste is stronger.

Honestly (even though I'm a caffiene addict myself, which has caused multiple health problems) stick to fruit or fruit juice. An apple is just as effective as caffiene for a wake-up. Stick to things that contain 100% juice, not refined sugar. Both caffiene and sucrose will give you a buzz for a short peroid of time, then crash you. Fructose (the type of sugar found in fruit) won't. Its good for you, it isn't addictive, and it will keep you awake without keeping you up all night! Good luck!

I would think an energy drink would help you. However, if you are concerned about your health, then you should know, most of the popular energy drinks on the market have a lot of sugar and caffeine in them, which are bad for you. They will give you a quick "boost" then you "crash".

I drink an energy drink that is healthy for you, works in 10-15 minutes after drinking it, lasts for several hours, and is a lot less expensive than those other energy drinks. It comes in a powder form ("on the go" packet) so you can mix it with 8 oz. of water or other beverage.

After drinking these drinks for several months (daily), I feel so much better. Also, I have some friends that like to work out and they say that it is the best thing for them.

I've had both and I must say that a strong batch of either will rock my socks. Yet I feel like coffee has better benefits (less chemicals and gentler to my heart.)

I like the new Sobe that is in the white can and tastes like orange juice (I think it's called Sobe Essential?) That's if you really want to know what I like not what is better for you. High B vitamin concentrations, low caffeine, lower sugar, if I want to have an energy drink.

On the coffee side I will cheat once in a while and have a Starbucks grande caramel macchiato with organic milk, sometimes soy, little syrup. Usually I will just have Folgers classic blend that I make at home, organic or soy milk, and no more than a teaspoon of sugar.

Neither is good for you. If you are lacking in energy try eating better foods, more fruits and veggies. Sleeping is a key role here to, get at least 8hrs and you should be good. Stay active and your body will want to stay active. Its not the easier way but its the healthiest way for your body.
But if you still insist on relaying on a drink for energy, then energy drinks might be the worst way to go, they are loaded with B vitamins (B vitamins can help produce more energy form your sugar intake) AND caffeine (almost as much as coffee). That combo will do unnatural things to your body. Obviously coffees bad because its loaded with caffeine which is poison for your body.
I suggest sticking to water and fruit, maybe Gatorade, something that replenishes your worn out body, or vitamin water.
Good luck and be safe, stay away from "energy boosters".

That depends...Are you speaking about an energy drink like "Red Bull?" Here are the ingredients:

Red Bull is the brand name of an Austrian energy drink. Sold as an energy drink to combat mental and physical fatigue, it contains, per 250 ml (8.3 U.S. fl. oz.) serving, about 27 g of sugar (glucose, sucrose), 1000 mg of taurine, 600 mg of glucuronolactone, B-complex vitamins and 80 mg of caffeine. The caffeine in one serving is less than that found in an average cup of coffee (typically 100 mg/250-ml cup) or twice as much as found in a can of Coke (40 mg/330-ml can). A sugar-free version has been available since the beginning of 2003.

Obviously, there are more nutrients than coffee and certainly less caffine, however, I think there are better alternatives. Here are some more facts about "Red Bull."

a) stimulant drinks should be labelled with an indication that they
are unsuitable for children (under 16 years of age), pregnant women
and individuals sensitive to caffeine
b) they should be classified with other beverages of high caffeine
content
c) the consumption of stimulant drinks by children under 16 years
should be discouraged
d) caution should be exercised in the consumption of stimulant drinks
with alcohol
e) they should not be consumed in association with sport and exercise
as a thirst quencher
f) they are unsuitable rehydration agents for use in sport and during
exercise."

those energy drinks are full of sugar.

coffee is slightly better, even if you put sugar in it, you'll get less sugar than those drinks.

best drink besides water is green tea, no milk or sugar.

there are many flavored varieties you can investigate.
