I was watching Much Music and there is a credit card designed for kids under the age of eighteen. Actually I believe the fine pri nt said between the ages of 13- 16. Do you think a child that age needs one? Who would pay the bill? I think kids should have their own earning capabilities before they have that much responsibility. Just curious....

NO! Unless that kid has a job and takes a class on how to manage /maintain credit. I honestly dont think that kids should have debit cards at that age unless they have a job. They need to show responsibility. Credit means alot now a day and me as an adult had made mistakes as well as when I went to college, and wish I hadn't on the credit cards that were so easily given to me.
Took alot of work and time to fix the mistakes that I made on my credit report, but only minutes to be approved for that credit.

First of all, if you're talking actual credit card and not the prepaid ones you have to apply for one, in which they ask you your income... I don't know about you but I don't know anybody between 13-16 who can say they make at least $600 a month on a constant basis who would be able to pay off their bill each month.
On top of that, why would anybody want to give somebody who's younger than 18 one? The parents would be responsible for it and the kids would not care one bit so they'd rack up a bill then pass it off to mommy and daddy and say something like "I'm sorry, I didn't know I spent that much" {insert puppy dog eyes here}....
No parent in their right mind would give their child a credit card unless they were so rich that they didn't care how much the kid racked up!

I dont think this is a good thing. The parents would be resonponsible for the bill.....so the kids can rack it up to the limit and the parents have to worry about paying for it. Kids that age normally do not have enough responsibility to know how to use a credit card in the right manor. If they cant pay for something with cash then they dont need it!!

Debit cards are great. I would push for a credit card until they are a least 16. I think you can put a spending limit on them. Majority of the money has to be from the kid's part-time job.

Why in God's name would a child under 18 need a credit card? Who pays for it? The parents! No, kids do not need a credit card. Simple really.

I'm 18 now and haven't had a credit card. I think it's really not a great idea. I do have a debit card, which is better since I can't spend more than what's in my bank account, but even then it's easy to spend money more quickly.

i'm very shocked to take heed to this! on account which you have been sixteen you will possibly desire to have been under your determine's scientific insurance and you does not be answerable for the charges. i think of you will possibly be able to desire to touch a attorney. Your mom saved all those charges from you and did not even attempt to pay them or placed them with the aid of insurance? you will possibly desire to have gained welfare or some state tips at that age and it does not have value you one cent. additionally, with identity theft so elementary now, a newborn infant's SSN must be stolen and used and abused. while the youngster turns 18 - wager what - they haven't any credit! you will possibly be able to desire to talk with somebody approximately this now and then get it straightened out. What your mom did replaced into incorrect. wish this facilitates. solid luck! Your mom might desire to have given those charges on your dad for his insurance to pay for them!!! Her preserving them back replaced into cruel. I purely reread your question. i'm fuming at your mom. replaced into she attempting to come back at you for being this type of youthful mom and/or your dad? of direction the charges have been addressed to you - you have been the affected person! i don't comprehend if there's a statute of barriers on issues like this. verify it out and probably while you're fortunate, you dad can submit the charges to the insurance corporation and clarify what exceeded off. with a bit of luck which would be straightened out after which you will get your credit labored on.
