Codependency is a dysfunctional relationship with one person living through or for another, attempting to control others, blaming others, attempting to "fix" others, and intense anxiety around intimacy.

It's very common in people raised in dysfunctional families, and in the partners and children of alcoholics and addicts. Most chemical dependency treatment centers now also offer treatment for Codependency. Codependency isn't all about addiction tho... one partner can be co-dependent (Codependent Personality Disorder) w/o the other person being an addict.

I think it is when you are so hooked on "helping" the other person that you are actually enabling whatever bad behavior it is. This can be intentionally or unintentional. For example, staying with a spouse who is abusive. Staying with a partner who abuses alcohol or drugs. Ultimately, "allowing" the behavior to go on.

In a nutshell it's relying on another person for you're own happiness (relationship wise I mean. It can also apply to drugs & alcohol).

I'm not sure but i think having to rely on some one or something and they leave and you can't cope being hooked i guess
