My husband has this horrible habit....As soon as he is done eating he gets up from the table and starts washing the dishes...When he gets dishes out of the cupboard he checks them all over to make sure there are no spots....He gets mad if there are dirty dishes in the sink....We have been married for 34 years and he was NEVER like this.... We recently moved into this new house and all of a sudden he becomes this clean freak.....He works on my nerves....He sees nothing wrong with how he is!!.. What do I do????!!!!! I need advice!!

If he wants to wash the dishes, I don't see the issue.

Getting mad, sure, I get that. And if he is hurtful when he gets mad, then yeah, ask him to stop that. But if he wants to clean, and you didn't have other plans, then let him wash the dishes.

Leave the room if watching him clean bugs you.

I could certainly think of worse habits for him to take up.

When he complains about dirty dishes and stuff just tell him that you appreciate the fact that he recognizes there is a problem and that you couldn't be happier that he has offered to help. Tell him that you are just so busy and that fact that he has offered to pitch in means more to you than he will ever know. You will be suprised how well this works and even if it doesn't work......it will stump him and you will love the look on his face as you glance at it on your way out of the room......just seem sincere and smile sweetly! Married seven years and I haven't grocery shopped for the last five of them because of this!!

Do you know how long I have been trying to train my husband to do that?

Well, I still haven't, even after 10 years. I would say "Thank you, but could you just sit with me until I'm done? There's no rush and then I can help you." Then he is sitting with you and not running off to "clean and inspect". Maybe he enjoys cleaning as stress relief?

After 34 years of marraige you haven't learn to just accept this? Wow that's mind boggling.

He is not going to change so just accept it. There are much worse that he can be doing.

Definetly sounds as though something a little strange is goig on. If it continues, I would make a doctor's appointment !

Sounds like OCD to me. Or perhaps he's just proud of his new home, and wants it to be spick and span all the time. If thats the case, don't worry, it'll wear off eventually.

Mid life crisis? If it's not that. I would take him to see a doctor. Apparently something has been triggered in his behavior.

Say thank you for doing the dishes. Take a break, if he'll do it let him.

he's gotten himself a case of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)....he needs a therapist ....

Or, on the lighter side, you could start renting him out by the week, I could use someone with a cleaning disorder in my house right about now!
