A 'stroker' is an engine where the stroke has been lengthened either by altering the connecting rod length or the throw length of the crankshaft, or a combination of the two.

Since engine displacement (either in liters or cubic inches) is a measurement of bore area times stroke length, a longer stroke makes a larger (displacement-wise) engine. This typically results in an increase in horsepower and torque.
