It's hard for someone to admit that they are wrong because it makes you feel bad and sorry that you gave the wrong information. I've had to do that and admitted to them that I was extremely sorry for my mistake. Usually the person will forgive you, but you still feel awful about what you did.

Because in order to admit we are/were wrong means that we made a mistake. It is difficult for a lot of people to admit to things that they have done wrong. I think a lot of it has to do with pride.
We all want to feel respected and/or admired and admitting were wrong means were Human and periodically mess up.

It's plain and simple. It's hard for people to accept that they could be at fault. In this country there has been an adoption of the blameless movement. "It's not my fault" is echoed through the media. It's hard for anyone to take full responsibility and accountability for their part in hurting someone. They just want people to view them as nice or sweet. Sometimes they just need to acknowledge that because we are both good and bad, all of us make mistakes.

I think because they were criticized so much as a child that they carry it over into adulthood.
It is a real personality flaw. If it can be overcome, there is a major growth for that person.

I think it's because of their ego's. Some people just have the overwhelming desire to always be right. People who think they know it all are very annoying to us who do. haha, kidding

in a word: insecurity.
people believe that being wrong is a reflection on who they really are. they feel that being wrong SCREAMS: i am incompetent, stupid, unworthy.
some people have associated being wrong with stupidity more than others. that is why there is a difference. when i was a kid, being right had tremendous value. so, i don't like to be wrong. i have become more confident with myself, and therefore more okay with being wrong. but it takes focused effort to get there!

Its a matter of loosing face verses saving face. It is hard for some, me included, to admit mistakes for some reason. However, the more we "accept" others for doing so, it makes it easier to do it yourself.
