98 Plymouth Voyager 3.3 Is there supposed to be a gaurd to protect water from getting up into this area?

There is a pulley that tightens the belt.. Called the Tensioner Pulley.


You need to tighten that up a bit.

I doubt water has anything to do with your belt coming off. It sounds like the belt is loose and slips off when the car jolts from hitting the water puddle. Take it to a mechanic they'll be able to tell you exactly what is wrong. It's hard to say when you can only read about. I have to be able to see it to tell you exaclty what the problem is.

That shouldn't happen. Is the belt aligned properly? Is the belt tensioner spring OK? Is the belt itself in good shape? Those are some of the things to check.

Check the belt tension, if it's a serpentine belt, the tension is set fairly tight at the belt tensioner.

it sounds like tensioner is weak.its not suppose to come off.also check the pulleys.
