Rat.
I was on a food hygiene course and unbeknown to us the trainer had brought in his friend's daughter's pet (white) rat but he covered the cage and didn't uncover it until right at the end to show us what a rat looked like (d'uh, I thought it was yellow, stripey and had big teeth).
Everyone else in the room jumped behind their chairs screaming. I went up to it ("Ahhhhh"), it climbed up the bars of its cage to let me tickle its tummy (double and triple "Ahhhhhhhhh.").
The resulting scream could be heard outside and one of the girls grabbed me by the wrist and marched me into the loos standing there while I washed my hands five times. I did try explaining that pet rats are very clean and carry no diseases but it's no good. That was about five years ago, it's still talked about as I still work with one of the girls that went on the course with me and every time rats are brought up it's ..."You should have seen what she (me) did!"
It still brings forth screams and I just shrug.
