It says I need to delete the partion..Will it delete everything or just the Windows XP home OS

Do you mean delete or upgrade? When you upgrade the files remain and the new system runs it. When you delete you are taking it off your system. Instructions usually come with the upgrade. Contact MicroSoft for more info.

It will delete everything, to make space. You want to upgrade to windows proffesional so you keep the files:
start your pc normally
put in the disk and run it
out of the options select upgrade and follow the prompts.

If you delete the partition you can kiss it goodbye. Can you install XP Pro over it? That would preserve it.

no the default files'll be changed only not the files u put
