No, he's not called the best player in the world becasue there is an abundance of players with flair. You have to be a truly magnificent player and lead your team to something to be called the best. The top three:3. Ronaldinho, led Barca to CL victory 2. Zidane:Led team to WC final, too bad he headbutted Materazzi and screwed his team over 1. Cannavaro, led his team to the World Cup title, and you can't beat that. I'm glad Ronaldo wasn't among those three. Where was Man U last year in the silverware department? Where was Portugal? And yes, becasue ian dowie is one ugly dude. It doesn't matter if Ronaldo cheat, girls still love himbecasue they think he is good looking.

He is the best player in the world because he can control games by himself, and any team in the world would love to have him play for them no matter what they say.
And no there is not a lack of flair players, but there is a lack of flair players in Cristiano's class, and as for the comment about Lionel Messi, he may be good but he comparing him to Cristiano Ronaldo is insulting (and this is from an England & Portsmouth supporter....not a Portugal or Man U fan)

He is certainly ONE of the best players around, and at this moment, on current form, probably the best. As for the cheating, it would be interesting to know if anyone could list any specific incidents from this season. Whatever the Middlesbrough bench thought, Monday's incident was a definite penalty. As an Arsenal fan I find it hard to believe I've just stuck up for Ronaldo!

as much as it pains me to say it but he will be one of the world greats... but not yet. When he cuts out the play acting and diving then yes i'll give him the credit he deserves. Just because you can do a few tricks doesn't make you great UNLESS there is an end product to it. Too many times these flair players do a trick for the sake of it. I prefer good honest pros any day like Gerrard or Essien.

Although I am a HUGE Man U fan, I have to say that Ronaldo, while he is an amazing player(and I'm not saying it because of his looks because believe it or not...FEMALE FANS DON'T JUST CARE ABOUT LOOKS!), he is not the best. Give him a couple years and then he'll get there but right now, I don't think he is.

I totally agree. He's a good looking young man who happens to be good at football. He is immature and is certainly a cheat, alot like many pro footballers. Beckham used to be touted by some as the best player in the world. Ask any Man Utd fan and they will tell you he wasn't even the best player in the team! It's all good looks and good marketing.

Cristiano is labeled the best player, because he IS!!
plain and simple.. why do all of you jealous people out there find it so hard to accept??
face it...IT'S THE TRUTH!!
your continuous whining regarding Ronaldo, just proves how great he is... otherwise you would not have much to say about him... and Messi... come on now??

He's only called the best player in the world in England by a tiny minority of idiots.
God, we build players up, though in fairness it starts with papers short of headlines, and muppets believing thecrap they write.
Do you honestly think in any other country in the world, even Portugal, they have Ronaldo in their top 3 world players??

At the moment I would say he is ONE of the best, but give him time to get into his prime in a few years (barring serious injuries) and I cant see anyone out of the current crop coming close.
He has got the lot: passing ability, crossing ability, aerial ability, shooting, link play, stamina, pace, vision, ability to take multiple players on, his swarthy Latino looks for the ladies and his unsurpassed diving techniques.
NO I am not a MUFC fan, but I wouldn't complain if he signed for NUFC.

I like to see tough challenges in the game. All the showing off bugs me. lol I like players like Cannavaro & Maldini. Although I have to say as an Gunner, I do enjoy it alot when Henry turns on the style.
As far as ugly tricksters go I have one words for you. Ronaldinho.
Think how popular he is in Brazil with the women because of his skills.
