what do you mean when saying you look hard?

I feel they mean you look like you have been toughened by something and it's holding you back from having a soft place for someone else to fall - When they need your reassurance and warmth in a friendship -

Simple. When you are over six foot tall, weigh more than the average frozen turkey, {times about 10!} wear what I wear in the avatar pic, (The leather, etc.) then you are called a "hardcase". "Hard" is also used in hardnose, hardass, and other variations of the definition for "hard" as used to define a person.

Here is the funny part. I won't step on a bug if I can help it. I work at a place that takes care of people that can not take care of themselves. I have been told more than once that my "style" does not show my actual "performance". I am kindhearted and helpfull when I can be. I wear the protection (All the leather stuff, the helmet, etc.) since I choose to ride a bike to save some gas.

You can look "hard" if you like. But you best be able to back it up. Five foot and 90 pounds ain't gonna do "hard" against six foot and change with an attitude. (A bad attitude, that is. Not that I have one.) I have been known to get on some so-called "hardcases" when they bother my charges at work. They ain't hard. 'nuff said. Ciao!

This can mean two things: You can look like you want to be brave and up for anything that crosses your path (like you have a thick skin and a tough exterior) or it can mean that you stare at someone for a long time, the same way causing a person to feel uncomfortable about what they're saying, doing, or anything.

Or do you mean that someone says "You look hard and unforgiving"? That means that you look forbidding or unemotional and grim.
