Gordie Howe played from age 18 in 1946, to age 51 in 1980, while taking a brief retirement from 1971-1973. I once saw a rerun of the 1980 All Star Game, and remember that he was still in pretty decent shape for 51. Howe ended up playing a total of 26 NHL seasons, a record.
Sakic is going to be 38 on July 7, so he would have to be playing at least in 2021-2022 in order to break "Mr. Hockey's" age record.

There has never been a hockey player named Joe Sackic.
If you mean the Joe Sakic that plays for the Avalanche right now, he is not even the oldest player in the league NOW and has quite a way to go before reaching Gordie Howe's age when he played for the Hartford Whalers.

Gordie howe was the oldest to play in the NHL, but Chris Chelios is 45 and is still playing, and i believe he is the oldest player right now

Sakic will blow out a knee or sum'n in the next year or 2 and be done. Gordie was 51, an all star amongst 22 year olds and defined hockey for 2+ generations.
