I make custom diaper cakes....truly custom. I have also teamed up with someone who ebroiders onesies for my cakes....and they can say anything you would want (ie: "So Much Love for Hailey", "Welcome to the World, Baby Hailey", etc.) I can also put monogrammed blankets and hooded towels on there!!

Diaper cakes are GREAT because you can gift all those little neccesary items (diapers, blankets, bath products, goodies for mom, etc.) in one beautiful cake. Customized ones are even better because they can be personalized and created to match a layette or baby's nusery decor!

Check out my site....you'll see that each of my cakes is as unique and distinctive as the baby they are created to celebrate!!

I ship anywhere, too!!

I always like to get a big gift bag and fill it with every day ,practical stuff they can both use .Safty plug covers, spit cloths, baby book, other safety stuff like oven locks, door knob locks ,etc. - { no one ever thinks of the baby becoming a toddler } also diapers, bibs, clothes { a little bigger than newborn, cause everyone else already got newborn clothes } Don't forget mom get her something in there too! How about an outfit thet is finally not "maternity ", coffee, candy , or some other things she may have given up for her pregnancy. Maybe a gift certificate from a portrait studio , like Sears or something, for baby's first pictures ! Then she can send you one { or hopefully more } when they get them taken . Hope some of this was useful !

I agree with the diapers, get her some of the size 1 or 2 as most people give the newborn ones and they are out of them within a few weeks sometimes.

Consider a really special children's book.

A special room decoration like a print or lithograph of a fairy tale scene.

If you want to get clothes, get clothes for when the baby is older. Or get something frivolous like a tutu and ballet slippers. I found I have a ton of clothes for my son's first year and then had to go out and buy some.

Start a savings account or education savings account for the baby's future and ask family members to contribute instead of buying extra gifts.

A handmade quilt or personalized baby blanket are lovely.

How about a star. You can go online and name a star after the baby.

Send her a gift unrelated to the baby. Obviously the baby has been showered with lots of gifts and needs for nothing. Try sending her a gift card to buy something nice for herself or for a day to a spa. She will need some time for relaxation once the baby is here. At this point, since she has everything she needs for the baby, it would be nice to know that her best friend thought about HER.

Chances are if she has had a shower than she might have most things she needs. So try and get creative. One of my favorite gifts was a baby time capsule. You can fill it with memories for the first year of the baby's life. Then decide when you want the baby to open it. (I chose my daughters 18th b-day.) It gives you guidelines and ideas of what to fill it with. For example the paper of the day the baby was born, messages to the future, current news or receipts, price of most used things such as gallon of gas, milk, bread etc. You can also put your baby's hospital bracelets or really anything that may fit. It would be really neat to compare what's hot now to what's hot then. They aren't too expensive and can be a lot of fun to put together. They make them for weddings too.

diapers are always a welcome gift, just be sure to get a brand name and since it's hard to tell a baby's size usually get a size 1 instead of newborn, because they tend to grow out of the newborn really quickly unless they are very tiny. also you want to get her a gift that is just for her that is not baby related, like a nice bath set or anything to make her feel good. a gift certificate to even just walmart is great for her to use for baby things as she needs it, diapers and wipes alone are pretty expensive things :)

I'm due in April also & had my shower already.... considering both of those circumstances, I'd myself suggest a gift certificate!! If you want the feeling or wrapping something up, call her and ask her if there's anything at all that she didnt get at her shower, and pick that up! good luck!

Diapers, Wipes, coupons for baby things..
Baby washcloths, baby lotion, soap, shampoo
Send her gift cards to wal-mart, target, etc.
Offer to send her precooked dinners.
Pay someone to come clean her house before the baby comes.
Maybe decorations/accessories for the nursery.
Momentos (like baby's first piggy bank, a foot print keepsake kit, a baby book, a baby calendar)

maybe wait till she has the baby and you could get a personalized gift. Like a blanket with the babys name and date of birth. Those are the things you keep forever.

I always give this to my friends who are expecting and they LOVE it...I make up a pretty basket with a SLEEP theme, since most new moms miss out on sleep SO much!

Here's what I put in it:

Lavender baby wash and lotion
Lavender body wash and lotion for mom
Baby bath towel and wash cloth
One of those little bunny or puppy security blankets
A Miracle blanket http://www.miracleblanket.com
Pacifier
Lullaby CD
A bedtime book

Everyone always loves it :)
