EXCEL makes a decent data base, as does ACCESS, but I would recomment that you invest about $300.00 in a good accounting software, such as QUICK BOOKS, or PEACHTREE.

You are going to need something to produce your invoices on, and you will want to pay your bills and write your checks quickly. With an accounting program, you can balance your check book quickly and accurately, generate financial reports that can tell you if you are making money, generate accounts receivable and payable reports - all kinds of good things to make life a little easier.

Excel can do the job if you don't want to spend anything extra right now. I would recommend QuickBooks though, it will save you a lot of time and effort when it is time to do your taxes next year. It is easy to use once it is set up, and pretty easy to set up if you are halfway decent with computers and software.
