The best way to become informed about the world is to get out in it. All news is biased accept maybe the CBC but that will only put you to sleep. I recommend lots of travel get out talk to people from all over the world. Glance at a paper or the Internet if you have to but take everything they tell you with a large dose of skepticism.

To have a well rounded knowledge of world events you need a variety of news sources. Domestic news sources are good for domestic news, but for international news the BBC is probably the best. Read newspapers and the internet, don't just watch the TV news. After a while you will get a better feel for how world events unfold over time. You should also research some history of areas where events are taking place in order to better understand why things are happening.
