Define "worth." People should be payed based on what they bring to the company. Nothing more and nothing less.

Now, it's pretty hard to determine this for most people. Salespeople, for example... it's easy. But most other jobs, it's hard.

So, we resort to the "market." This means that what the company needs to pay to get someone to fill the job. If they pay too little, they won't find anyone (qualified) to fill the position.

While not perfect, it works. As long as people are willing to jump to another employer. As long as people stay at their underpaying job, what incentive does an employer have to pay more?

No, and I really doubt anyone does. It is easier to get someone to do a job cheaper. todays economy, people are getting desperate. Myself, it's half and half. No I really don't feel like I get paid fairly, but at the same time, I have more knowledge than degree. So there are two many ways to look at it.

Well, not anymore. I just found out monday that I no longer have a job after next week. Not my fault, company layoff. Oh, and my husband is also out of work. YIKES!

And yes, I know I should be out looking for a job instead of being on YA.

nobody is ever paid as much as they are worth. Weellll, some are paid a lot more than they are worth, but as for all of us average folks, we are never paid what we think we are worth, even if we are paid well.
