I voted for Catie 1 in your answers, but want to add this story for you: My daughter had a summer job when she was 16 at an amusement park restaurant--yuck. One day a large group of women and children came in and she took their orders nicely, however, one of the women called her a "cracker" as she walked away from the table. She was insulted, but calm, and didn't respond at all. What she did was make sure there were lots of crackers served with every item and then offered them more crackers, and "Did you get enough crackers?" By the time the group left, her co-workers were also offering them 'more crackers' as they refilled soda glasses, etc. No tip, by the way.

'Cracker', is a Southern U.S. derogatory term for "poor, white trash" (1766).
It is from around 1450 'crack' meant "to boast" (e.g. not what it's 'cracked' up to be), and was originally a Scottish word. It was used or applied to frontiersmen of the southern American colonies in the 1760s, though subsequently given other interpretations especially of Georgians by 1808. Georgians were known for their bragging about things. Example of how they were thought of is in this letter back to England from George Cochrane.

"I should explain to your Lordship what is meant by crackers; a name they have got from being great boasters; they are a lawless set of rascals on the frontiers of Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas and Georgia, who often change their places of abode." [1766, G. Cochrane]

It's a word that is used for White people Like the "N" word for Black people! It really doesn't have or ever will have the same "sting" as the "N" word, But People have used the word like the "n" word and think it's OK to use! In the older days alot more people had moral values so they just didn't use those type of words so loosely!

"Cracker" is a derogatory word for white people. I have heard that it originally referred to white slave owners in the United States who cracked their whips to keep the slaves in line.
