Depends on the car, for instance the Cadillac with Northstar engine is a *****, small block Chevy is a snap!

Depending on what your car is.......If you can find the starter, and can get to it, and have the tools to do the job, it's a piece of cake, you can do it yourself. That said, I can't even tell for sure on mine which is the starter, much less get to it, even though I have replaced many in the past! Try to get several quotes for the labor, and the part itself, as prices can vary A LOT!

labor is about $45.00 P.H. it shouldn't take more than two hours according to the A.S.E., the prices on starters vary depends on the make and model of your car, with the proper tools and a manual you can probably do it yourself. check with kragen auto or chief auto parts even pep boys, they usually let you borrow a manual and the tools if you buy the part from them.

It depends on several factors. What kind of make, model and type of engine you have. In my 1990 Toyota Camry which i have now less the a half hour. My Geo Prism which i no longer have. I let my mechanic do it because and excuse what i say but it was a SOB to change.
