I will be hitting 15 years soon, and even though I love what I do and plan on staying in to 25, I've been thinking about life after the Army.

So.. how's life when you get out?

And how is working in a civilian job? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Retired about one year ago after surviving 25 years in the Air Force. Being that I was in a mobile unit, and we pretty much considered ourselves the lost brance of the Army Air Corps, it was very taxing to go to the field every three or four months.
Things I do not miss: long deployments away from home, those unneccessary briefings held way to often.

It took some time getting the military mind frame out of my system. My first job was with a Lowe's. they treated me pretty well, and got a kick out of military bearing. It also took a while to get out the habit of calling everyone "Sir" or "MA'am" (even though thats not necessarily a bad thing, just a sign of respect, unless your addressing a young woman).

I finally landed a nice job as a contractor that specialized in my military job. It pays pretty good. My suggestions for you would be to "Not stress about getting out". Build yourself a good resume at least two years befor you retire and start marketing yourself within 6 months of retirement. Look for major corporations that could use your military speciality and sell your skills to them. Thats what I did and have been pretty happy so far. Good Luck!

I am no longer adversarial to cuts in the ones methods, HOWEVER, it will have to no longer be coming from often the ones methods. Cuts have got to be performed around the board. Paraphrasing what you mentioned, the majority of the weight will have to no longer be at the again of veterans regardless that. Cuts more often than not have got to occur regardless that, by way of all departments, no longer simply DOD and Department of Veterans Affairs. ++++++++++ AF21... Okay then, make navy individuals pay for his or her possess condo for much less then three years which could imply they could be the wrong way up in a mortgage after which drive them to promote it for a PCS in a marketplace in which residences don't seem to be promoting. Really now. I would agree rather if we didn't need to transfer at executive orders as quite often as we do.
