i have typed on computer for years and i am still making mistakes.

perhaps this is because i look at the screen, when i am typing and not at the keyboard.

I type 120wpm. ( about 50 since my "E" key snapped off, but that isn't my fault!) It isn't that hard at all! You can download speed typing programs, and its about about practice, practice, practice. Keep your eyes on the screen, and let your fingers do the work. You'll learn where all the keys are eventually, so don't think about it. The muscle memory in your fingers can work faster then your brain can when it comes to figuring out which keys are where. You can even get dark covers to cover the keyboard so you can't see where the keys are. Try downloading one of those programs, and good luck!

No you should not look at the keyboard, I was trained 30 years ago in the Army and at that time could type at 89 words a minute, I think you had to type at something like 70 to pass your city and guilds which I did. If you look at the keyboard you are not thinking about what you are typing and are bound to make mistakes and to slow down.

You should not be looking at the keyboard. I can type this fast and it slows me down if I look at the keyboard. I did typing at school and was taught not to look at the keyboard. go to yahoo and search for typing games, there are lots of free ones available to play on the web or download and its a great way to learn to type quicker whilst having some fun!

They make mistakes, too, but they probably learned how to type properly to begin with. Looking at the screen is correct; you should not be looking at the keyboard. Holding your hands in the proper position also helps (use the thumbs to hit the space bar; keep hands above the middle row of keys, etc.)

If you think 60 wpm is fast, you would be amazed how fast is fast.

I recently went in for a job interview and testing, this girl was doing a typing test and she typed 80 wpm on average. Average, meaning she was not even trying to impress others, it's her normal speed. I call them the CyberBabies.

Some people do not have the bone structure in their fingers to have that ability. I have have been typing since I was in the 5th grade and I on my worst day I can type 50 WPM. Practice makes perfect.

I always look at the screen or what i am typing from and i can type at 100 wpm. i'm not trained it just came to me naturally. i guess some people are good at it and some aren't. plus normally you don't look at the keys because its called being a touch typist, ie you just touch, don't look.
