It has to do with sleep hormones. They stop processing in kids at about 6-7ish. adults go until 8 and teens run till 11 sometimes. Then there is just habit. sometimes i stay up till 2am then get up at 6 or im crashed untill 12 or later.

All I can say is thank your lucky stars! My kids are notorious for sleeping in regardless of what time they go to sleep.....I need to get a cowbell to get them out of bed on schooldays. Now on the weekend, they are up at the buttcrack of dawn demanding breakfast at 6:30 a.m.

I am afraid it is naturally controlled.
It's called a circadian rhythem or biological clock. that and if their favourite cartoon or something is on at that time then they have something to anticipate which lowers their arousal threshold (makes it easier for them to wake up). Sleeping in comes easiest when:
-you've made a habit of it
-you're very tired
-there is nothing to do tomorrow morning but sleep in
