I had Verizon DSL for 11 months and very UNHAPPY with it. My browser would not connect to the internet at least twice to 4 times a day, I would have to turn the Verizon provided wireless router off and turn it back on for it to work. I asked Verizon for a different wireless router and the same thing still happens. So now it is a rountine for me to turn the wireless router off and back on few times a day. I called Verizon technician and they told me it is normal. Is this Normal?? ? Is this what people with DSL have to go through every day or just Verizon DSL service ?
My 1 year contract is up with them next month so I think I'm going to swith to Time Warner high speed internet. I will probably go with the cheapest package which is Road Runner Standard 4M x 512K* or 6M x 384K* which I dont even know which one to pick or if it is fast compare to Verizon 765k package I have. I'm just so tired of running down stairs to turn the wireless router off/on. Thanks for any advice !

I've had Verizon DSL for nearly two years now and have had absolutely no problem at all...Having to reset your modem is not normal. The entire time I've had the service I have only turned my modem off about three times and that was only to move the unit. Other than that it is on 24-7. Unless you cannot get the problem resolved, the added speed of Cable is really not that noticeable for home use unless you do a lot of uploading of video or a lot of gaming. For all practical purposes 756k is plenty. (but hey, everyone has their preferences).

Try getting your own wireless router. Or get a new wifi card for the laptop if possible.

I had some issues with a particular low-end wireless AP and wifi card where it did about what you describe. I would have to reset the AP to get to reconnect.

I eventually replaced the wire router with a wire/wireless combo router and got rid of the AP and this stopped being a problem.

its not normal to have to power down and up the router that many times. There is something else wrong.

Go with the time warner cable since the DSL doesn't seem to work properly in your area.

I certainly have Verizon DSL provider. i do no longer use any of their application, and have not have been given any concern checking any of my information superhighway-based digital mail money owed. instead of putting in all the crap they needed me to, I set my modem on a bridged connection and created a shortcut to connect using the community CONNECTIONS determination on top of issues panel.

Go with cable, it's generally faster than DSL anyway, if possible get your own modem so that way you won't have to rent the TW modem.

My Verizon does the same thing. Cable is OK, but make sure their contract installers do not sodomize your house pets while they are installing it.
