It's not safer for the women who will have to suffer "honor" killings. We live under the Constitution of the United States, and if you don't like that, either get out, or get the Supreme Court to appoint you President.

Because the Constitution of the United States of America prohibits the government from imposing a religion on the citizens.

Besides, this shows an ignorance of the reasons for violence against women (not to mention is sexist toward men, as it suggests that men are incapable of not raping women if they see, say, an arm), not to mention neglects the fact that women are NOT safe simply because men can't see them.

Violence against women is rampant in countries where females are covered and controled. It's just that when men attack women, the women, not the men, are held responsible.

Thus, not only is it unconstitutional, but it would make things much worse for all wives and daughters, and all other women, for that matter.

(Not to mention it's uncomfortable to be covered head to toe.)

Why not Iran under free democracy? Why not eat pork in Mecca?

What a ridiculous thought!

The laws of this continent were based on Judeo-Christian ethics, keeping in mind that LIBERTY is most important. Sharia law is in direct violation of liberty. Sharia law takes away freedom of choice. Sharia law makes women pawns, and objectifies us.

More than that, modesty is not what you wear on your body. It is what is in your heart.

If you can't see that, then YOU are the problem. If you get turned on by hair or arms then YOU have the problem. Not me. And if you say that "Oh, I can't help myself", then you are weak. You are no man. You are just a male. Swine rut in the mud. Do you?

I would DIE fighting before subjecting myself or my precious daughter to this disgusting farce of a law.

Sharia is a total contradiction of not just US civil rights laws (and the civil rights laws of other Western democracies) but of international human rights laws.

I can expand on this if you really want me to go into it - try me!

Note for the anonymous poster: Sharia is actually illegal in the United States and Britain (and France and Germany, etc., etc., etc.!). Anybody who wants to practice it should move to countries where it is legal. Otherwise, they are breaking the law.

Tehabwa gives some good examples, but I will go further.

Sharia law is segregationalist. It separates the sexes into two distinct groups as regards their place in society. Women are deemed to be the chattel of their husbands and fathers. Their rights are about the same as the rights of other property - dogs and camels - and therefore defies every basic principal of the rights of humans over animals.

In Sharia law, enforcement goes beyond the immediate family. It allows any male to exercise extraditial "justice" against any woman. For example, if a woman is raped, under sharia law any Muslim man would have the right to execute her. If a Muslim woman dares even a non-sexual friendship with a non-Muslim man, any Muslim man would have the right to execute her. Of course, these are extreme examples, but sharia law is usually given the most extreme interpretation, and in any event, even if the imam is lenient, if an aggressor defies the imam's decision and kills or commits a violent act against the woman, he goes unpunished.

In modern Western society, all women are regarded as human beings equal to men, having the same rights and privileges - equal to their husbands in all areas of family and civil law and the laws of humanity.

Women do not choose to be subjugated to bestial status, so Sharia undermines a woman's right to choose - from who to marry to how to dress to how to conduct herself from minute to minute. It must be very confusing for women living in areas where these ultra-archaic and barbaric rules are the norm. Imagine, if you will, being in a circumstance where some man says "Do what I say or I will kill you", so you do what he says then some other man says "Kill her, because she did what the other man told her to".

You are free to set-up your family as you wish. Have sharia in the home, or not.

The rest of the nation also is free to become a Muslim, or convert from Islam if we choose. We are also free to practice other religions, or none at all. Get used to freedom you might like it.

You can have Sharia without making the whole country Muslim against our wishes.

the us was founded as a democracy. But not a religeous state. By the way in Iran where sharia law is instituted the moral police have created more abuse to teen agers. Where under democacry women and children are protected.

because the law of the land forbids using religious doctrine as law. that and the majority population of the US is not Muslim and would never accept it.

i have a question for you though, are you suggesting Sharia but allowing for ijtihad, or is it Sharia as defined 300 years ago, because that will also be a problem.

"Why not US under Sharia?" Simple answer. Sharia law SUCKS! If you like Sharia, knock yourself out. And, if you try and shove Sharia down our throats, as you idiots are....will be a very bleak day for you.

You come to our country and bring your pile of dung with you. Great people you are. Take Minneapolis for starters....taxi drivers will not take a fare if that person is carrying a bottle of hooch or a seeing eye dog for a blind person and the list goes on.

Yes, you're great understanding people. Take your Sharia and shove it!

Becuse Sharia is religious law, and our Constitution forbids enforcing religious doctrine as a matter of secular law.

Not that many Christians haven't found a way around that by claiming a secular reason for the laws. But it's still unconstitutional.

Muslims could wear anything they want if only they were clean, simple, educated and peaceful people. But they are NOT! I studied the Jihad section of the Qur'an and it is not a pleasant piece of literature. Too much fighting, killing, hate the Jews ad Christians ad so on. This should not be part of a holy faith. There should be love instead of killing for Allah. Allah does not want you to kill for him. To tell the truth. You treat your women like they are sheep not human beings. The Muslim faith needs a rewriting from scratch.
