What did you think of the budget overall?

I can think why he did it but what would his explanation be???

He is not the only Chancellor to have done so, his reason is obvious for the hierarchy that he mingles with are spirit drinkers and he has to look after his own.
Apart from that reason the majority of alcohol consumed today is either beer or wine so he goes for the greatest tax revenue earners, two bites at the cherry.
As for the budget in general he may as well have left things as they were, if he has got it wrong his successor will have a mini budget in November.

he kept the tax of spirits to keep his good friend Charles Kennedy happy lol!
it's the budget of a man making a grab for power.just wait till he gets there and than we'll see what the government does with the next few budgets.

Because he's a Scot and he's thinking about the Scottish whiskey industry. He looks after them first.
The budget only means more tax for me to pay, like I have been increasingly doing since these bunch of lying crooks came into power.

I think he likes his spirits, and doesn't want to have to pay more to get into the spirit of over-taxing the spirits he uses?

Can I just say to you all that most of you are probably right about Brown's reasons but don't forget he and his colleagues don't pay for their drink we do!. You can rest assured that it goes down to 'expenses'.
