I want to teach elementary school in the future and I need the money to pay for school and a place to live. I don't plan on stripping. Would I be unemployable at a school if they found out I was a strip club waitress?

Maybe, maybe not. Unfortunately, we live in a judgemental society, and yes, it may be hard on you if that information was found out. Not saying that is 100%, but it's definately a possibility.

I worked at a regular bar as a barmaid, but we had female strippers once a week. Somehow, there was a big rumor that I was a stripper, even though I did nothing but pour drinks!

Look at some of the contestants on American Idol (if you are a fan). Sooo many good singers got kicked off the show after they passed the auditions because things they had done in their past had surfaced. Just an example of how your past will always come back to haunt you. It's a shame because the past is the past, and what you do in your personal life is your business, but that's the screwed up world we live in.

Yes. I would not care if you're a great teacher. Teacher is a role model, and a person who waitresses in a strip club is not your ideal role model. Of course you can argue that you're the All American Role Model to which you single handed paid your way through school with your own bare hand and made something of yourself, good story, be it true or not, the public don't care much for such history.

It's all about Public Rep and if your background is not in good light, they will drop you like a bad habit. It's shallow but it's life. People will tell you otherwise, but in their heart, they know that your a.s.s would not teach, at least not teach my daughters and sons.

As long as you don't do the stripping, I see no problem with it. We all have to do what we have to do to make it in this world, and since we women are at a disadvantage salary-wise, I think it's a reasonable trade-off. These days teachers are in such great demand, I don't think it will be a problem for you to get that teaching job just because of where you once worked to support yourself. You could always inquire (anonymously) at a few schools what they think.

I think it depends on the school. Obviously, a parochial school will have stricter guidelines than many public schools.

As long as you keep your panties on and your legs crossed Miss Thing........you should not have a problem! Oh and if you don't wear undies, at least keep your legs closed. LOL!
