I want to teach elementary school in the future and I need the money to pay for school and a place to live. I don't plan on stripping. Would I be unemployable at a school if they found out I was a strip club waitress?

I've had a roommate in college that bartended at a strip club. I don't think it's hurt her career in journalism at all. Just don't put it down on your resume. I wouldn't think it would haunt you in the future if you were just a waitress. Keep in mind, you'll probably have to deal with some annoying guys at the job.

IMO no good can come from this.

In the future you will asked where you work/worked. When you say, "I was a waitress at The Good Time Strip Club", all that will be heard is "Strip Club". Go ahead and keep it quiet, you may even succeed in keeping it quiet but you will never succeed in keeping it silent. So you can admit it and have trouble getting a teaching job, or you can "try" to hide it and get dismissed for not being forthcoming on you resume and application. That dismissal will follow you and everywhere you go you will be asked what else you might be hiding. Or, someone somewhere will recognize you and how much will you be willing to pay to keep it quiet. Maybe money, maybe sex or maybe you will have to kill a blackmailer. That is all worst case, but can you see how it could become extremely complicated?

I strongly encourage you to work elsewhere. It might be perfectly innocent what you are planning and even what you do but perception is reality and you will be perceived as a stripper.

That's one old man's opinion.

Well, you won't be actually stripping, but if you list that place on your resume, it might be an issue.

From the sounds of it, you'll do it for a while during your schooling. Your resume for school really won't be dependent on your waitressing skills, it will be mainly your educational history.

I'd find a very part-time job eventually where you're working with kids, like a daycare, or even volunteering once a week. Use that to fill in the time period, and leave out the strip club.

While waitressing is a respectable (and often decent paying) job, you likely wouldn't want to list a gentlemen's club as a place of employment on your resume- especially when interviewing for a teaching position.

If you're currently in school, you could work there without listing this as a place of employment on your resume (that way there's no noticeable gap in employment, as you're a student). Otherwise, I'd advise sticking to waitressing at regular restaurants.

If the elementary school you plan to work at in the future does not mind that you served horny men with throbbing ding-dongs ready to ram you, then go ahead and work as a waitress in a strip club.

My best advice is: if you want a proffessional respectable job, don't do a half-a s s effort ==> have you tried looking into other restaurants / clubs / bars that are not exotic strip bars?

I would still think that it could be taken that you might have danced, they wouldn't know if you were just a waitress! There are other places to waitress.

You'll never just be a waitress...you will eventually see the money that the other girls bring in, and start stripping

Girly look.
As long as you respect yourself and carry yourself with pride, it doesn't matter WHERE you work. It's YOU they respect, not your job. How many unrespectable doctors and surgeons are there? MILLIONS.

If u walk around like ur the ish and you love your cute little job, everyone will respect you. Your rep will sky rocket.

So hold that head up and pass out them drinks!

Good Luck!

I'd say don't make it public knowledge because it certainly won't help. Sometimes, judgment comes from perception which can often be misplaced.
