We have been having an on going property dispute with our neighbor. They have resorted to calling the police on us constantly, and sad to say the police are taking there side. They have informed he to video tape our every move, and to file restraining order. I know we are not perfect people but we do nothing that will hurt them, exept live our daily lives. Is it right for them to tape us in our daily activities?

I know it may be a pain for you and your family, but to answer your question; No...in most states it is not illegal to record as long as they are following the laws themselves.
IE, if they have like a surveillance camera which happens to be aimed in your direction, then they are fine, and not to much you can do legally....however, if they are holding a camera, going onto your property, or holding a camera over a fence to record something in your backyard, then depending on where you live, then they could easily be breaking the law.
A thought for you, have you thought about going to small claims court and suing for harassment??? This maybe a way for you to get them to stop recording with you suing them for deprivation of privacy.
Other than that, keep your curtains and blinds closed, and or turn the tables and put up your own cameras....

i would have to side with coolhand... He has a very good point about why your neighbors are going to that extent to prevent you from doing regular activities. I am sure that you have a large roll on this because you have not already filed a harassment to the police. Sorry but from the sounds of this is that you are at fault here.

If living your daily life involves doing anything on their property or that encroaches them, then yes, they have the right to video tape you and do whatever it takes within legal bounds to make you stop. It is likely that if the police are on their side then you are in the wrong and should cease whatever it is you are doing in your daily life before you get royally sued using all that footage.

As long as you are in public domain they can videotape you. If they come on your lawn they are trespassing if its your property. Its best to stay at home and keep the noise level down, so he gets nothing. When you leave the house put on a hood or hat and keep your head low. If you are annoyed start videotaping them.

No, not illegal, if they are on their property; they can record anything in the cameras view.

If the cops are on their side what are they accusing your family of doing; why did they decide to record your families activities?

Camera's can be used anywhere. It is legal and really rude of them. But you can hire an investigator to prove they have the Camera aimed right at you. It is called spying on your neighbor. Also harassment.

I do not see how it is but I definitely would be contacting a private lawyer to see if a civil suit is in order besides going after them in a criminal court with your local pros. attorney. These people need to be hammered by the government. They are weird.
