I am working on a novel and wanted to set my margins to the size of an actual novel, just for my own weird purposes.

Definition: an invented prose narrative that is usually long and complex and deals especially with human experience through a usually connected sequence of events.

Page dimensions, font, style, etc. are set by publishers and can be different for every novel, so there isn't really a "standard novel." Try grabbing one off your shelf and setting it to whatever is listed there (some books list font style in the front or back - Like Harry Potter is set in Adobe Garamound).
