You should do the following:
1. Go through all your text and picture files and delete the ones you no longer need.
2. Go through all your programs and uninstall the ones you no longer need. Use the Windows Add/Delete Programs in Control Panel if you can, or the program's uninstall utility, otherwise just delete the folder that contains the program files.
3. Use an Adware/Spyware "killer" program to get rid of any such files that have been downloaded off the Internet.
4. Use a Temporary files cleaner program to get rid of all temporary Internet and other temporary files. Or do it manually.
5. Run a Registry cleaner program to clean up all the keys for programs and files that you have uninstalled or deleted.
6. Run a full ScanDisk to check for hard disk errors.
7. Run a Defrag program (the Windows one is OK) to tidy up the hard drive.
8. Run "msconfig" from the Start-Run menu, go to the Startup tab, and unclick the unnecessary programs so they won't start or run every time you turn on your computer. (Click on "Apply".) For example, you don't need to have media programs like Real Player or your mail and internet programs running all the time. You can uncheck all the update programs (except for your security programs) and just remember to check manually for updates once a month or so.

It's a tedious process the first time you do all the above, but once it's done, it's fairly easy to stay on top of things.

There are a few things that you can do to increase performance/speed of your computer.

First -- Upgrade your RAM ( you can find out what kind to get by contacting the manufacturer of the pc) Most PC's running XP (home or pro) are running in 512MB to 1GB of RAM.

Second -- Go to "My Computer" on the PC, right click on the "C" drive and click "properties", on the "General" tab you will see "Disc Cleanup"... click on that. It may take a while to bring up the info depending on the size of the drive. Once the info comes up, I always get rid of Temp Internet Files and anything in Temp.

Third -- Get a good spware program to run (adaware, avg spyware ..etc.) and do a complete PC scan.

These should help increase speed / performance.

Hope this helped....

Using registry cleaner can fix your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there are some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

Try running the Disk Defragmentator on your system. That will get rid of any temporary files and/or files of programs you don't have on your computer anymore. It'll free up your hard drive and should make your computer become speedier. Hope this helps and good luck!

go into user accounts and bring them up -- all up and by the date if u haven't used them in a long time--remove and take ur time and get rid if some of that junk. I made myself do this yesterday. I'm like a pack rat and don't actually want to delete much but for the increased performance of my computer I made myself do it.

if you have programs you don't need just delete it in the control panel. And go in you "my documents" and delete files that you don't need.

Also go to start menu...then click on my computer...then right click on you hard drive...select properties and finally click on disk cleanup...it will delete unnecessary files and free up disk space. And it allows to run ur computer faster.

If you need a major improvement or your computer is really slow you may want to consider an upgrade ( adding RAM or upgrading your processor).
Hope this helps.

You may just want to back up all of your personal data (make sure you have copies of important programs too) and pop in your restore disc. Also, find out how much RAM your motherboard will allow and possibly even upgrade your CPU as well if the board allows it.

Download adaware and buy it and it gets rid of all your spyware which will extremely increase your speed online. This is spyware not viruses so get some virus removers as well. Or another way is take it by Bestbuy or what have you and get them to fdisk your hard drive and start from there.
