I've applied to and was accepted to numerous colleges, but my favorite campus and the one that suits my needs is Florida Tech; however, from first-hand experience and second-hand stories, I've heard that many snakes are native to the campus and this part of Florida. Any ideas about how to handle this?

Don't invite them into your dorm room. Another alternative is to get a cat. Cats love to keep the snake population down.

Snakes are native to just about everywhere in North America except the far north, you just don't see them most of the time and especially not in urban areas. Go to Florida Tech, don't tell anyone about your phobia or some joker will plant a snake in your dorm room but maybe see about aversion therapy. One surprisingly effective thing you can do yourself is buy some not too scary toy snake, maybe a Beanie Baby type non-threatening plush toy, and keep if around your room, play with it. I feel the same way about spiders and have had great results from doing this.

Good luck

I, too, have a fear of snakes. Don't let your fear control you. If that is the school you want to go to then go. Just be aware of your surroundings and remember that they are more scared of you. I know it sounds easier that it is, but in time it will get easier to deal with the snakes. And don't tell anyone or they will mess with you.
