i bought an additive to clean my valves in my engine on my car

yes - it goes where the engine oil goes. That is the crank case.

some things are made to add there. Others you add to the fuel (pour it in the gas tank when you refuel), transmission (add same place you add transmission fluid), coolant system (add to the radiator or coolant reservoir), etc.

yes, but it will circulate with the oil and only clean the upper end of the valves. if you want to clean the valves in the head it would need to be put in the gas tank or carburator.

That is correct - just pour it in where the oil usually goes.
