I am a High School Sophomore in a North Carolina high school (so I am in state). My current GPA is a 4.25, but I have done the calculations and if I get A's in all my classes next year I will have around a 4.6 (I regret slacking off a little this year and my freshman year, but have only recieved 4 B's and am taking all honors classes and 4 AP classes next year.) I am in the Key Club, Treasurer of SADD Club, Non-fiction editor of our school literary magazine, captain of my homeroom, and sophomore class representative for our school's business alliance. I am in a community service club outside of school and volunteer frequently at the local hospital. My mom, dad, and my sister went to UNC Chapel Hill and my mom gives a lot of money annually to the nursing program (if that counts any). I know that my essays will be above average; I have not yet taken my SATs but am hessitant to say I will score above average. I plan to apply early admission senior year. can i get into unc chapel hill?

No. You will go to East Carolina and party for the next six years before dropping out to manage a strip club.
But seriously, don't you think your parents and councilors are better judges of that than we are. From the sound of things you'll be alright. Besides, you can do what a friend of mine did and declare an unpopular major(one that there isn't a lot of demand for) and change your major once you have established yourself.(He did this at UNC!)

UNC-Chapel Hill's admission difficulty is considered hard. Acceptance Rate: 34%. Average SAT Scores: 1800-2080 Average ACT Scores: 28-31 79% of applicants are in the top 10% of their high school class. Right now, I don't think you have a very good chance at UNC-Chapel Hill. You can improve your chances though. You will definitely need to raise your SAT score to at least 1800. Also, try taking the ACT. I personally find the ACT much easier than the SAT. Also, failing a class probably won't help your chances. Almost 80% of applicants are in the top 10% of their high school class, so to have a really good shot at this college, you'll probably need to make it into that top 10%. Here are the pluses in your resume though. Your community service is excellent--colleges look for a lot of volunteer work. To better you chances of admission, keep doing volunteer work over the summer and do as much as you can. Being president of Key Club shows great leadership, and being in 8 clubs shows great school involvement. Overall, if you can improve your SAT/ACT scores to at least a 1800/28, and you can boost up your GPA a bit before you submit you application, you'll have a fair shot. I'd say about 70% chance of admission. If you submitted your application with the 1570 SAT score, you'd probably have a 20% chance. Your extracurriculars and your community service will definitely be your saving grace. Best of luck :)

I'm a current UNC student. Only a very small percentage of accepted students are out of state. So you really need to make yourself stand out to get in. You need to get your test scores up. Try for an 1800 at least. Also, that failed class is going to hurt you. If it was an AP or college level class, it won't look as bad as just a HS course. You need leadership experience. Its nice you're in so many clubs but honestly it would be better for you to be elbow deep in a few (if your in reaaallly deep into 8--holy crap you're awesome). You still have time! you're only a junior. Senior year is whats most important. really get out there and try. Bottom line: you're behind. work your a$$ off and you still have a chance

I am a current Junior at UNC. Its hard but its fun and it sounds as if you are a perfect candidate. I actually have the same credentials but I was just a senior in high school. You still have a lot of time to add to it. Keep doing well as you are and you will definitely get in. Just remember that its not all about numbers though. You have to be well rounded, as it seems you are, and you need to have a great essay and awesome references. So make nice with your teachers now, try to take one of them a few times to make them more creditable.
All I can say from now is keep doing good and I hope to see you at "The Hill."
(PS.: I also use to work for the Carolina Annual Fund [we call and ask for donations from the alumni], the fact that your parents contribute means nothing [unless they are donating enough to get a building named after them]. I know, I have spoken to many angry parents.)

You most likely match all of their criterion. You should be accepted no doubt, unless you do poor on the SAT.
