Evrytime there is a hyped-up player, they are considered as royalty. Look at MJ, he was referred to as "HIs Airness," a term in monarchy that is actually your highness. LeBron is an amazing basketball player, so simply, he is referred to as "King."

It is because King James, I always took it as a poor reference to the King who payed for the translation of the Holy Bible(you know the King James Version) and never took it as some Nike Marketing strategy.

Lebron James nickname comes from himself from high school.The truth is he has a personal attraction for lions, and since as animal it is perceived as the one ruling over the animal kingdom... Lebron identifies himself to it by trying to be the best player ever [thus the "king"]. That is the reason why he has a lion tatooed on his right arm. It has no marketing strategic background whatsoever, even though it seems so.

There was a British king named King James. He was an effective ruler and the people liked him. So since Lebron dominates the court and people like, i guess KING JAMES SEEMS FITTING.

no, it was his nickname outta high school and then people started saying he was the next MJ because of his nickname and then that got him more attention so if the team with the no.1 pick didnt take him everyone would make fun of them so the Cavs had to take him with that King James thing going on.
